Hello all,

I am looking for specific experiences on certain bits of hardware - throw
in you usual suggestions if you like but I am really interested in these
questions:

1) Dennis S. and others - did you ever sort out the Matrox G550 issue you
had? I know the G550 has pretty poor 3D performance but Protel is not
3D. I want really sharp image, so video card must have high speed low
jitter RAMDACs. Brian G. - you know your way around graphics - what
moderately priced graphics cards are doing it for you these days? Must have
dual monitor support. Prefer either nVidia based or Matrox. Must support
different resolutions and refresh rates for each monitor. (OS is Win2k
SP2). I am not hugely sensitive to flicker. Anything over 72Hz is OK for
me - so I usually use a lowish refresh in order to improve image focus and
reduce smearing.

2) Monitors - I need sharp sharp sharp - colour rendition is not
critical. I do not like Sony much (overpriced and I find the damper wires
are irritating even after some period of use - but if I have to have them
so be it). I am interested in the newer Hitachi displays which use digital
convergence correction in many zones across the screen. Any had any
experience? Don't bother suggesting Eizo as they are a real pain to source
in this country. I have a really bad Cornerstone 21" (basically a Hitachi
monitor). I have the cover off and a tuning tool in hand and tweak the
focus regularly. Always very poor. This will become the second monitor as
it is OK for PCB work - just not Sch and text work. I am not sure I need a
21" - a 19" will probably do - especially if it improves the focus and
convergence.

Ian
