That's true, the power on surges are pretty stressful. I was thinking about the heat build up from leaving it on 24/7. I suppose you could leave it on all night (like Brian stated with the contrast cranked) and then power cycle it a few times a day.
Anyway, it's a good deal. I've been buying (other things) from local auctions and this is a lot cheaper.
