Actually, the most expensive computer I ever owned was a 1996 vintage 200 MHz Pentium Dell Dimension XPS200s. With 32MB of SDRAM, 2.5GB HDD, Win95, and 21 inch monitor, it came to $5600 or so. Lest anyone think I got ripped off, it was a high performance CAD machine at the time. My second most expensive computer was a 1995 vintage Sharp PC-8650II laptop. Active-matrix VGA color LCD, 486DX2-50, 4MB of RAM, 220MB HDD, no CD drive or sound (laptops didn't have them back then). I upgraded it to a whopping 20MB of RAM with a pricey $1100 RAM module, PCMCIA 14.4 modem, and PCMCIA ethernet. Total price: $3700. It came with DOS 6.2 and Win3.1, I later upped it to 4GB HDD and Win95. I haven't used it in 2 years, so it's officially retired now (on loan to someone who is desperate for a computer). The old 286 was a 1987 vintage 8 MHz 286, 2MB RAM, 40MB HDD, monochrome graphics, DOS 3.3, about $1700. Man, I wish I could have back the money I spent on those machines. I just ordered a new Fujitsu E series laptop, and in a few years I'm sure I will be kicking myself for spending $2700 on it and accessories...
