Michael,

one more foot-in-the-mouth-workaround:
deleting unused layers and create your DWG/DXF

in 99SE: s/a (select/al) unselect the Layer you need (x/y),
delete selection (ctrl/del)
File export to DWG/DXF with a new name.
undo.
select al... 
etc.etc.

Just my 2 eurocents ;-)
