Every version of PT since 5 has used shift comma and shift period to rewind and forward up until the latest version 11.2.1 That's why I expressed surprised that you never mentioned it. To be honest up until version 11 or so even the sighted engineers I know would either use the mouse to get to where they want on the timeline or use shift comma or period for quick intervals. It has a better feel than the numpad. You can try it right now even in version 11.2.1 but you will get thrown around rather than it working correctly. If you have any version of 10 or before that will work properly. All of the techs I've spoken with at Avid also have used it and expressed surprise when it stopped working correctly in 11. Avid had already known about the issue as soon as 11 came out but didn't fix it yet. One tech said it was working much better on a Macbook running PT 11.2.1 rather than a desktop but it was still somewhat intermittent. Be sure to turn on Audio during FF and RW in preferences or you won't know how much audio has gone by.

Which version of Pro Tools included Shift-comma and Shift-period? All the way back to version 5, there was no such control. Before that, we're talking Pro Tools 4 which was around 1997. Were you using Pro Tools before version 5?
A control surface isn't much better or at least not 100% of the time for
transport controls. Both the C|24 and D-command are having the same issue.
Precisely why I don't use rewind and fast forward.
