So the setting is just to support pixel art and old Sprite sheets? New Sprites sheets for OpenGL have empty space between tiles and images to remove the bleeding effect. In any case, I've gone through the mailing list and it seems I have the minority opinion in preferring sub pixel rendering so I'll drop the idea to make it default. I will however, document a simple way to make it the default so others who don't want a retro look can enable sub pixel rendering without hassle.
