The PC sits there for ages and ages unable to find the printer's USB connection, no matter how often I try. I borrowed another USB cable and still not working, so that's another possibility ruled out. Next step to wait for the USB PCI card to arrive in the next couple of days and try it that way.
Phoebus has suggested something ont he WIndows 98SE disk for improved USB, need to try that too, although the Settings/System menu implies it's all there and _should_ be working!
