If you do this in 'safe mode' you can delete the history of devices that were installed and not just the current ones. The registry is not very good at cleansing itself which is why I suggested editing the registry. There are several shareware and freeware programs that can do that. Check Tucows.a PC type fellow once pointed out to me that it pays to visit -system- devices - and delete any drivers that have a problem ( yellow question mark ) before you attempt to reload them
