Dilwyn,

I had the same problems with a 740 but, eventually, the answer was that if 
the CD was in the drive and W98 wanted info that was one place. The other 
was the Windows 98 CD.  IF you have the room on your hard disk, copy the 
W98 directory on to it and every time Windows wants something, point it to 
that directory and it will remember in future.

The other problem is USB ports.  Have you looked at your device manager to 
see if they are installed?  If that is not so, there are most of your 
problems.  Try re-installing the drivers, it might help!!
