QLandkarte tries to be a kind of a smart ass :) If you change map by import or selection and the new map covers your current position it will use the same zoom level and position. However if the current position is out of the boundary of the new map, it will do a "zoom world". And for "zoom world" the rectangle of the base map stored in the tdb file is used. Thus Brazil should show up in it's entire when switching from New Zealand to Brazil.
