That is what usually happens to me with OSM maps. They are just crap in the 
mountains. 

They have some advantage in areas like Bayerischer Wald, as official maps 
haven't been updated for ages. But in that area I choose the less romantic way 
and use a GPS with alarm beep when leaving the planned track. Which is pretty 
nice as I do not have to cross check with the map constantly.

Aynway I do not really see a common use case that would make the work worth 
it. But as usual if anyone volunteers, go ahead.
