Well, seems to me I've been here before, as I think I know the feeling :)).
Besides all these technical issues you've been arguing in previous msgs, for
which everybody surely has a point, QMail happens to be Dan's baby. I mean he's
seen the niche, he planned it, devised it, conceived it... he must have spent a
lot of his personal time on the entire process. He then released it for free for
the world to enjoy. He even shows up here in person to support it. Period.
Its interface shows Dan's believes on the way an MTA should communicate
with its administrators. Some of us may like it, some may not, some may be
making a little money thanks to it, but it surely can't be everything to
everybody, as no piece of software can. And I'm not putting myself on DJ's
side, as I believe we would all benefit from a wider qmail world, but I do see
a point in his stubborness. After all, Windows kids should not be running unix
sites kind of "'till the new piece of software to try comes around". Unix
admins should have a little knowledge (aren't they being paid for their time?).
And they should be concerned and comitted with the security of their systems,
and know how to fix them. They should know qmail is the answer to their email
resources nightmares, though that may be up to us if we really feel a qmail
world is a better one (again, we may all have a benefit in it), you know, no
publicity is enough publicity. And then, after learning this fact, they should
be ready to make the switch the very first minute their fresh new systems are
powered up. After all, for any problem they could have there's always the
support guys willing to help them out, and this list, of course, which has
proved for assistance excelence more than enough in the many months (years?)
I've been lurking.
May be I'm right, may be I'm wrong. I know I've been a lurker and I'm not
worthy, but it's just my two cents about it.
Sorry for any waste of time resources (surely not the qmail way about it) :))).
Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to everybody.
