No, IRIX upgrades/patches will always re-install sendmail because SGI
considers it a necessary piece of the operating system. Most
qmail-aware SGI admins know this, and remove the sendmail binary and
relink it to qmail after upgrading.

You reinvented /var/qmail/bin/sendmail? Sounds like you didn't read
the installation instructions very carefully.
