I have considered going to the supra-pubic indwelling foley many times but I never did because I figured why fix what is not broken? And it would be a great plus, like you, that would make sex easier.
None of my surgeries have gone well and, like you, I can't imagine an open stoma in my stomach for many, many, many reasons. There have been a lot of positive stories and just as many negative ones. I guess if they had done that initially... that is where I would be but it has been 28 years now so I doubt I will change. I always think about the dressings, the leakage, being exactly where my tight abdominal Binder is, etc. etc. etc. etc.. It would be just one more thing to take care of unless, as others have said, you get used to it. Just my thoughts.
