I had a similar problem in my coupe, there was a slight 'pop' as the
fuse went and the headlight flaps closed with the lights still on! Also
noticed one of the rear lights went out at the same time.
It turned out to be a dodgy rear bulb holder which was fusing out the
diagonal circuit.
Try changing the rear bulb holder and light bulb diagonally across from
you problem headlight.

disappears into the car, and investigated the fuse box, and can't find
anywhere the reason why it consistently blows the fuse for the driver's
side dipped beam every time I go over a road hump. I'll get it, but I
think the next step is to remove all the interior trim and see what's
going on. I've found some really bad joints under there...
