Hello Quantum assembled mass of knowledge, How do you deal with tailgaters?
Now that I seem to be travelling home from work in the dark, it seems that for some reason my car has become highly magnetic. The A33 that I travel daily from Basingstoke to Reading every day being the road that fills me with dread. The last few trips home I've been tailgated really badly, I'm talking 1 car length at MOST! Normally I just ignore it but be extra careful, however this time of year when they have lights on is a bit dazzling and off putting. I think I've tried pretty much most normal suggestions, but wanted to find out what you do. The speed limit on this road is 50 mph. I stick to it. The people behind me want to go faster. As a lot of people speed, I don't tend to find there is a car in front of me for considerable distance. I've tried slowing down a bit and pulling far into the left, they seem to get closer rather than overtake. I've tried slowing down a bit then speeding up to get a bit of distance - they catch up Bringing the brake light on without breaking - they get closer or flash their lights I'd love to slam my breaks on, but a crash is gong to help no one I'd put my rear fog lights on or something, but doing so would put my front ones on and I don't want to dazzle 'innocent' motorists I've even pulled into lay-bys, however the next person seems to come along and tail gate again.
