Hello all, I have a quick question relating to insurance for unregistered cars.
I recently failed my IVA test on my Xtreme (nothing major) for which I hired a transporter to get it there at a cost of £250 (no tow bar, so could not hire a trailer). To avoid this cost again, I would like to insure my car so that I can take it to a local garage for tracking and emissions testing (as allowed by VOSA) and to the IVA re-test. However, the club policy will only insure me on my chassis number for 2 weeks before cancelling if I do not provide a registration number. This poses a problem, as I can't allocate a big lump of time to complete the works in one go (due to family commitments), including the retest. Also, as I have no screen/roof and the test centre is nearly 2 hours drive away I can only go if the weather if favourable. Does anyone have any suggestions? Does anyone know if Footman James are flexible on this? Ideally I would like insurance to cover me on a Chassis number for up to about 6-8 weeks to give me enough time to get the works complete (it may require a couple of trips to my local garage on the emissions) before arranging a date for the re-test when the weather looks reasonable.
