I haven't gotten around to removing the CV this time around but it
looks like the same failure as last time.....

The Driver side Driveshaft pulls out of the centre of the CV Joint
through the end of the casing leaving the ball bearings behind sitting
in the grease.

The only thing preventing the Driveshift dropping out is the Gaiter
and the fact that there is NOT enough room to fully disengage the end
from the CV casing.
Once you remove the wheel and hub carrier and undo the Gaiter, the
Drive shaft just pulls out leaving the bulk of the CV joint still
attached to the Gearbox.

The end of the CV casing is buckled - its made of relatively thin
metal.

There is no problem with the Gearbox or the CV at the Wheel end.
