Yes, i'd forgotten that, I think the long one is supposed to be extended on the saloon.
I don't know by how much, maybe Eddie knows ?

I think i do have one somewhere from my saloon.

It has a short driveshaft on the passenger's side and a long
driveshaft on the drivers side.

Thanks for the info regarding the thin metal end on the driveshaft
joint.

What would cause the inner section to be hard up against the end?
Too short a Driveshaft? Engine incorrectly positioned?
In some of the build manuals it mentions that Driveshafts have to be
exchanged as they need to be lengthened - Any idea of the dimensions

What engine/gearbox is in the car ?
Does it have a short and long driveshaft, or is the long one behind the
engine split into two ?

The thin metal end on the driveshaft joint isn't suppose to take any force, if it does it just bends out of the way, it's just there to hold the joint
together when the driveshaft is off the car.
It quite often gets damaged as garages use the freeplay in the joint as a
"slide hammer" to remove the driveshaft joint from the gearbox.

If the inner section of the joint is hard up against the thin metal end it will pull out as soon as you turn a sharp corner, that or pull the joint out
of the gearbox.
