Welcome, my 2+2 is around 5 inches from the bottom of the sill behind the front
wheels to the floor and i've got standard XR2 suspension. The front off mine on
the drive is 4 inches front the floor(my drive slopes downwards.

The speedo is out because of the wheels you have fitted. Mine is out my 5 mph
at low speeds (30 mph) and nearly accurate at high speeds (70 mph) I have 14"
alloy wheels fitted.

Regards

Chris

Subject: [Quantum Owners] Just bought a 2+2

Hi there,

I recently became the owner of a blue 94 factory built 2+2 and have already
built up a list of jobs to do on it as long as my arm, thought I'd come on
here to plunder some of the collective knowledge on offer as I fear I'm
nowhere near enough mechanically minded to go it alone. It's a 1.9 with
weber carb (fitted with electronic autochoke) and some rather loud pipes,
sounds and runs pretty well at 2000rpm+ but not so great at idle.. I figure
it could just be a lumpy fast road cam but it's also challenging to start
and surged once or twice on me today. There's also quite a strong whiff of
petrol..

Any idea on what's most likely to be causing the rough running/how to
diagnose carb issues. Having moved from a fairly straight forward ECU
controlled car to something with carbs I'm a bit lost..

I've also found the car a bit too low at times, it grounds on bumps quite
easily and won't go up my driveway without a makeshift ramp being setup for
it.. I'm wondering if it has been lowered or the springs have gone soft?
There's less than 5" clearance between the sill and the ground behind the
front arch (the tow hook and exhaust being lower still), what is the
typical ride height of a 2+2, or an XR2 for that matter? Would new front
shocks and springs improve matters?

Final niggle for today is the inaccuracy of the speedo. Unfortunately the
only time it gets near to being accurate is around 70mph. At below 40mph
it's hopeless, recording nothing up to about 15mph and only around 20mph
when you're doing 30. What with the sharp acceleration and addictive
exhaust note I really need to find a fix before I end up with points..
