The cable slipping would normally make the needle wave around all over the
place.
Likewise if the diff bearings have gone in the gearbox and chewed up the speedo
drive gears (used to be very common).

Is it worthwhile checking the drive cable connections at the gear box end and
the speedo end and then the cable it self?

If the cable connections are loose....
it may not be fully driven at low speeds and therefore not driving the speedo
correctly?

No this is a dark blue 2+2, number 2115.

Living in London we have speed bumps large enough to have their own post code
which means 4" between the exhaust/gearbox cradle and the road isn't really
enough. :( What would be the best way to increase the ride height a little
(inch or two)? Would normal fiesta mk2 springs do the trick? Or some other
springs?

You're quite right my car does have 14" alloys with 185/55s on them, but
surely such a large innaccuracy, especially one which resolves further up the
dial has to be something else? My speedo doesn't really do anything until
15mph.. It's under-reading by at least 10mph at 30.

Is there any way to get it a bit more accurate?
