On my Saloon - CVH running A weber Twin Choke...
Pressing the Accelerator Initially set the Fast Idle Speed control and
(squirts a little extra fuel in).
The Auto Choke holds the choke butterfly valve(s) closed when Cold and as
the car warms up the Auto Choke mechanism allows the Valve(s) to open up.
Once warm firmly pressing the Accelerator releases the Fast Idle Speed
Control and the engine speed drops back to normal Idle.
I agree with the others, Auto Chokes are Tempermental and my need a little
extra accelerator when staring to keep the engine running until its warm.
If you take the Air Intake Filer off you can see the chokes / Fast Idle
change.

Me again! My car has an auto choke. I've looked around the steering wheel
and I couldn't see anything to pull out. Anyway. This morning (before I
started the engine) I pressed the accelerator pedal a few times and THEN I
started the engine. However. It cut out pretty much straight away. Am I
doing it right? Pumping the pedal before I start the engine, then start the
engine? I also get some smoke out of the exhaust. I take it that's normal
though? Cold morning's? Thanks again for all your help and advice.
