Thanks all, much appreciated.

The problem has been there in varying degrees since I have had the coupe. It
is the usual 65mph resonance. Sometimes it seemed to be very little, other
times significant, but never gone. But it has not been the priority issue. I
am now going though the process of diagnosing the problem and have had the
wheels very closely balanced and tried changing them around, check tightened
all suspension bolts, serviced the brakes and finally had a brainwave. At one
point I found the outer offside (long) shaft ball joint gaiter clip undone.
Securing it again reduced the vibs.

I put the car on a solid chassis ramp and ran it up. Looking at the rotating
components that shaft is the only one looks as if it is vibrating. (i.e. has a
fuzzy outline with 65mph on the speedo, more solid when lower speed and no
vibs. felt) But the offside wheel is responding. (changing the wheel made no
difference - unless there are two wheels that balance fine, but don't run true
on the hub!) Nearside looks solid and the wheel and tyre solid, too. Then
tried it without wheels at all. There is still a buzz when the wheels are
removed but obviously not the same vibration. Hence the idea to try a DIY
balance of the shaft.

So if I succeeded is there a possibility I would have problems with MOT or not
in your opinion?

I suppose wheel balancing on the car might still solve it even if it is the
drive shaft. But it would not be the best solution. If I can balance shaft
that would prove the problems source and I might still change the shaft. Or
maybe it is the gearbox output Jim (!)
