The only thing I can add to this discussion is that when you use insert page
down or better jawskey page down then the intire line is read out lout.
It can some times be a bit chalenging to remember all the information
presented on such a status line especially if there are many different
figures.

I prefer swimming with Dolphins and they have a hotkey to read the status
bar - sounds pretty sensible thing. Surely JAWS must have some equivalent?
But let's not get into which screen reader is best.
QWS uses a standard status bar control as provided by the Common Controls
library,
so there's nothing extraordinary or strange about it.
As a rough guide, it's the last text in the window, at the bottom.

I'm not quite sure what you mean.
However, I can tell you that the ALT arrow for next and previous notes stop
only at notes. They do not stop because there is a new bar. Likewise,
they report notes, not individual note on and note off messages - otherwise
you would get twice as many notes as there actually are.
So, for example, if you had a track with three notes on it: C, E, G. It
doesn't matter whether all these notes play together or overlap or occur
in completely different bars, pressing ALT arrows will land on each note
in turn.
My old Korg X5 used to have a system dump which sent all the patch
names and numbers out as sysex messages which you could read and
convert to a text file. I imagine that the Roland Juno must do
something similar as they bundle a patch editor with it; not sure
about the clavinova though this would definitely be the best
way to get the patch info out of them and the least error prone.
Mind you, first i need to find out how to get DJGPP to talk to a MIDI
port. I will post the instrument lists as soon as I've managed to
figure out how to do this.
One moment: you are right that with most synths there is a way to capture
the
patch data, which includes the patch names. However, this is not really
much good to writing an instrument list.
This is because, although you will get the patch names, you do not get the
program and bank numbers needed to select the patch.
Your best way to get a patch list is to look in the back of the manual, or
to try searching on the web. Most manuals these days are available in
electronic
format.
