My wife, who is a teacher for over 30 years agrees with what you said, Duane. A boy doesn't know the real value of the dollar anyway so it is kind a lost on him. Even though 100.00 can buy a lot of candy it tends to be lost on them. They appreciate one piece at a time. Acheivements are different than merits so it depends what they are being rewarded for. I encourage them in their advancements by giving them an inexpensive pocket knife for earning the bowie knife and a hatchet for the tomahawk, a RR beret for advanced. Anything more expensive is like casting pearls before swine. It would break my heart to give a boy a Ranger buck knife and find out that they lost it before the next meeting. It happens.
