<< I have a question that really isn't RR business, but is important to me
personally. A few months ago I was blessed with the gift of interpretation.
It's still very new and definitely not fully understood by me.

Last Sunday I got a word. It was not in tongues. I know it was from God
because I always pray when this happens that the Lord will be with me and not
let anything of me or the world come through. I want very much to be in line
with God. No word was given in tongues, so this was not an "interpretation."
I felt compelled to give it. The same thing happened in the evening service.

No one said anything to me except my husband later at home when we were
sharing about our day. He said I should have waited for the message in
tongues to come and then given the interpretation. I had waited and I had
prayed before I gave the word that was given to me.

I'm very confused. At other times I've heard a word given by someone else in
service when there had been no message given in tongues.

Can anyone out there give me some help in clearing this up. I only want to be
in line with God. I wish to be a vessel to be poured out. I would not do
anything to endanger what God has given.

God Bless you all and thank you for being patient with me. I know how
ignorant this may sound to some of you

Kelly,

God bless you. God has begun to move you into the spiritual gifts of 1
Corinthians 12-14.
Michael Paul is absolutely correct when he says that all three chapters are
important.
Ch. 12 - enumerates some spiritual gifts (Gr. charismata -gifts of
grace/power). I say some because these are by no means all. See also Romans 12
and Ephesians 4.
Paul, in talking of these in Ch. 12 focuses on the unity of the Body and how
each gift is given as the Spirit wills for the building of the body.
Ch. 14 - deals specifically with prophecy, tongues, and the orderly
manifesting of these in the assembly of believers.
Ch. 13 - ties the other two together with the "more excellent way" of love,
without which the gifts cannot accomplish God's intentions.

The Apostle Paul, by the Holy Spirit, writes, "pursue", "eagerly desire",
spiritual gifts. He says this twice - Ch 12 verse 31, and Ch 14 verse 1.
Interestingly, and Michael Paul please correct me on this if I'm wrong, what
we translate "eagerly desire" or "pursue" in the Greek means "lust after", "to
burn with zeal for", "to envy."
So we know that we are commanded to do this with a fervor that borders on
obsession.
I believe what God was giving you was a word of prophecy. Paul wrote that we
may all prophesy. But there must be order. The spirit of the prophet is
subject to the prophet. Yes, he said prophet. But, Kelly that doesn't
necessarily mean God is calling you to the office of Prophet (see Eph. 4).
BTW, the office of New Testament Prophet is somewhat different than its Old
Testament counterpart even as the two covenants are different. Yet, even
though you may not be called to the "office" of prophet, it does not mean you
cannot prophesy.
"He who prophesies, speaks to men...." in a nutshell, that is NT prophecy.
Carrying it further........"speaks to men for edification, exhortation, and
comfort.
I heard one speaker say that the Greek there gives the idea of fastening
someone onto something.
So, Kelly, when you're obedient to speak as the Spirit gives the word, you are
fastening someone onto Jesus. What a beautiful picture.

Yes, you should be in agreement with your husband. Perhaps you two need to do
a study of the gifts and especially prophecy.
Yes, you should be in submission to your Pastor. I suggest talking to him and
getting his input as to this gift. But be aware that some pastors are leery of
this gifting as they may have been burned by it in the past because of either
those who prophesied from their own agendas or those who assumed the office of
Prophet without being called by God. Many of us, myself included, have in the
past mistakenly assumed that prophet meant prophet in the Old Testament
sense, and have started pronouncing judgement here and judgement there. While
the office still carries the aspect of a Watchman, our final authority is the
Word of God (the more sure Word of prophecy, see 2 Pet 1:19). The NT prophet's
"word" must line up with the WORD. The OT prophet's word WAS the Word because
he was speaking what he had received directly from the Throne. Do we, as NT
prophets, receive directly from the throne?
Yes, but God's Word is now complete, and WE speak in line with IT.
May I suggest that you AND your husband pray into this? I believe that as the
Last Days speed toward us, we will have to be more and more in tune with what
the Spirit is saying to the Church. God is speaking all the time, we just
don't listen well. I believe that He is restoring the Apostolic and Prophetic
offices to His Church in their fullness for this purpose. Many in the A/G
think that these passed away after the First Century. Ironic, isn't it? That's
the same argument that our non-Pentecostal brethren use against tongues and
divine healing and other supernatural manifestations and it infuriates us.
If you feel that this is a call then I suggest you read Rick Joyner's book
(in fact, read it anyway, it is very insightful) - The Prophetic Ministry -
Morningstar Publications. You may access their website at :

the Journal of Rick's ministry in Charlotte, NC.
You can access the home page from there. Read especially the article on "Azusa
Street, the Fire That Could Not Die." Get a feel for your Pentecostal roots.
I suggest also that you look at Bob Jones
.
Bob is a prophet in the truest sense and his "Shepherd's Rod" is ....well, see
for yourself. But, go with an open mind. No preconceptions, about these sites,
yourself, or how God will use you.
I am sorry that this has gotten so long but this subject is very close to my
heart after what has happened in my life the past 12 months. I have
experienced the same confusion as you. But I prayed through and.......well, I
will share more backchannel if you wish. This message has gotten long enough.
