To be perfectly honest this was my first impression as well. However I am
glad to read some of the reply's. It is a good subject to discuss. One that
can help in our outposts.
My view is what I have developed over the past two years. As Sr Commander
one must begin work with the leaders God has provided. Do whatever you can
to support and build up these men. As you promote the Ranger program do it
very positively. Promote the team approach. Prayerfully Decide who is your
most committed leaders and pour yourself into them. I look at my leaders
kind of like a patrol of boys. I ask them about their families. If one is
sick I call and send a card. I sent a Christmas card to all of them thanking
them for the good job they did this year. When I remember I send them and
their wives birthday cards and anniversary cards. After PowWow last summer I
went on Vacation. The first chance I had I bought post cards where I was at
and sent them to the leaders and dads who came on the PowWow thanking them
for giving themselves to the boys and thanked the wives for giving their
husbands up for the weekend.
The bottom line is build up loyalty in your leaders that they will gladly
serve and follow you.
