Duane,

Do I have any thoughts? I'm afraid so!<G> Thanks for the invite.

May I speak clearly and frankly?<G>.....It is my opinion that US Royal Rangers
foremost,
first and always exists as a ministry to spread the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ
into
boys' lives so that they may know the salvation of the Lord and all his subsequent
blessings and then to keep them there. I believe this should be the primary and
underlying motivation behind everything we do, both in Royal Ranger as well as (in a
broader sense) our private lives. I believe it is absolutely correct that in RR the
overriding focus and consideration should be on the boys and not on the commanders. If
anyone is working in RR for selfish reasons or to boost their own ego they should
re-examine what it is that is really motivating them.

It seems to me that one area where many of us disagree is the methodology we use to
work
toward this purpose the Lord has given us. From the 27 years I have been a teacher and
counselor in the public school system it is clear to me there is not a single best way
to teach or lead young people. What works for most does not work for all and what works
for one may not work for another. BUT...most of the time I found that when I could get
a
student's interest and curiosity aroused, not only did the student learn, but they
WANTED to learn. I also found out (pretty quickly) that simply standing in front of a
class and lecturing or trying to just "tell" them what they needed to know didn't work
too well. I have used an extension of this idea in working with Royal Rangers by
getting
them actively involved, with a hands-on approach and letting them go down a path of
active discovery by doing a lot of things themselves and not having it just done for
them. I will admit I did not get to sit in a lawn chair too often though. <Sigh>

Maybe you and I are saying the same thing?

Les
