What you appear to be talking about is teaching them doctrine that the A/G subscribes
to. No one ever said we should not do that. That's vital.
Let's not water it down...
Building a merit around "Comparative Religion" study is NOT teaching our boys the way
they should go.
Building a merit around our doctrine with what and why we believe what we believe is
warranted... but isn't that already in existence?

In my opinion young boys need to start learning why they believe what
they do, as well as how to defend they faith against false doctrines.
I have the Trail Blazers and Challengers in my outpost learning
solide doctrine. I think this is the best thing we have done for these
boys in a long time. We are preparing these boys to reach other boys.
How can they do this if they don't have a full understanding of what
they believe as well as what others believe.
Young people that are doctrinated well tend to follow in all sorts
of doctrinal flows. It bothers me to meet a 25 year old that was born
and raised hearing the gospel and when you ask them to explain
something like "why is the blood of Jesus necesary for salvation?"
they just have no answer. Most can't even explain the trinity.
You can't preach/teach against something (false doctrine) that you
don't understand yourself. This is why I believe that this merit does
have some value for the older boys.
