<unlurk> I had the unique opportunity last year to help Queensland conduct a Ranger of the Year just outside of Brisbane. I helped out with the oral interviews and well as reviewing the notebooks. I was very impressed. In my humble opinion, the girls achieved better than the guys in most respects and they seemed to "know" the material better. I also noticed a mutual understanding and respect as well as healthy competition between the genders. In our culture we tend to separate the boys and girls until they are teens, then we throw them together and don't understand why they can't control themselves or behave around each other properly. I have a 16 yr old daughter (only child) who has begged me her entire life to be in Royal Rangers. I included her as much as I could when it was allowed and tolerated. (not as an outpost member, but on outings and such.) I feel due to those opportunities she has a much better understanding and respect for the opposite sex. Back to the Aussies for a moment. You are so right about the "family" ministry concept. Many married couples that I met who were both Ranger leaders thought it was great they had a ministry they could do together. Also, many met while they were young Royal Rangers. If there are any married couples from Down Under on this list, I would love to hear your thoughts along this line.
I firmly believe there will come a day in the USA when it is acceptable for the girls to use the Royal Rangers material with their own female leaders. I am not suggesting that girls will camp with boys. (The Aussies don't camp "together".) I am simply saying the Royal Rangers program is finely suited and relevant for both genders. I imagine it will start with Rangerkids. Such a harmless age.... :-) and it will probably take many years. DJ Check out my newly designed website. www.rangerdj.com p.s. as far as the other trash talk going on right now... (one of my biggest pet peeves) I think there is a popular saying on this list, something about a donkey and shaking it off and stepping up, and another one about spittin hay. rofl :-) p.s.s. My mother always taught me, if you don't have anything good or positive to say, don't say anything at all. (Oh how I wish I could always follow her advice all the time!) <lurk> -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of dperich Sent: Friday, July 15, 2005 11:18 AM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [RR] Gas is $2.50 gal on west coast As for Duane's comment on "integrating genders"... I remember a chat I had with a fellow from Australia years ago at the first "International" Camporama. I want to say the fellow's name was Will Spencer, but I'm not sure. I think he was the National Commander at the time. We discussed girls in Rangers and he told me that the policy of having girls in Rangers had re-united many broken families there and made many others stronger. He said it was a "family" program. Leaders were often married couples with relationships that were good examples. I think marriages do better when they're thrown in with other people trying to address the same problems and issues you are confronting yourself. You see how other people relate to each other and to God. You examine your own relationships in that light and make adjustments. Camping, for families in general, has always been an activity that cements relationships together. Even when the experience was horrible, working together to "survive" the situation draws people closer together. Modern civilization has mostly eliminated the need for life-sustaining activities. We exercise on Nautilus machines instead of working the field to grow our food. Our stores are filled with "lifestyle" junk that that has nothing to do with life-sustenance. Camping can get rid of all that clutter and bring what's essential to the surface. It's not like we are ahead of those problems and don't need to address them here. We only have women in RangerKids in the USA, but my wife, a RangerKid Leader, is an important part of my own relationship with Rangers and the boys. Will also told me that the girls are usually way ahead of the boys on working on requirements and book work--oh well. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Duane Wheeler Sent: Friday, July 15, 2005 10:54 AM To: Comm.Eddie Cc: [email protected] Subject: Re: [RR] Gas is $2.50 gal on west coast Quoting "Comm.Eddie" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > Just bring back the talk of how you guys were re-building your own car from > a junker. Or even keep it at gas prices. I just don't understand why it > always degenerates into the spam it does. *I must be the cause.. I post off topic because there is Zero Ranger activity in SW Washington State, It's all gone. I flipped over to BSA Scouting.. *Eagled out,put 350 miles on my boots and retired. I'm also the cause because I know, Old America.. represented by the original RR program, is being replaced by a compromise with the "power elete". RR could have learned to evolve and embrace the format in Europe integrateing genders and promoteing a "christian scouter" ethic.. That program could have expanded and grown to embrace kindred faith's with a release of ownership/ man centered control and true leadership by the Holy Spirit. It disheartens me to know a > ranger list that is as old at rnet is as vacant as it is because of that > kind of talk. Where are all the Marks out there who actually can email > about their recent pics of ranger trips? Or talk of derby racing and ROTY? Mark is a true heart and soldier for the cause.. KUDO's to you Bro.Eddie for your good work ect. you too are a soldier, but then.. *so am I.. > Who wants to? You want to know why there isn't anyone? No. I don't need to know. It's not our duty to shine the light only over the camp.. sometimes, Good men do evil.. NTC showed that. Sometimes, it's heroic to stand and say no thanks to "Dog Training" or fast food. It's not wrong to say no to a sham program or propaganda. IMHO Our duty is to be follow the Ranger Code. 2 points of the emblem represent simple spiritual concepts and no point defends the Royal Ranger program. All other points of the Ranger emblem set us to go out into the world. I'm a WILDERNESS member.. *NW Dist. in SW Wash dried up to dust and blew away.. I report that sir, with regret. Why can't everyone do Rangernet a favor > and return it to what it should be? *I get what you are saying..."Make the main thing.. the main thing<G>" However, Rangernet is mearly a "Democratic Institution and Patrol experiment" I keep thinking about the song: "Just as I am" I keep remembering that I am just a member of a patrol. My pledge, is to follow the Code.. *with God's help.. God is the Sr.Commander, and we are just boys<G> Sr.Commander doesn't bark, shout or run the outpost. Rangernet is Boy run.. Have a nice day<G> -=A=- > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Duane Wheeler" <[email protected]> > To: "Comm.Eddie" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Sent: Thursday, July 14, 2005 7:43 PM > Subject: Re: [RR] Gas is $2.50 gal on west coast > > > > Wow.. > > > > How lost I must be- > > > > Duane > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > > From: "Comm.Eddie" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > To: <[email protected]> > > Sent: Thursday, July 14, 2005 4:30 PM > > Subject: Re: [RR] Gas is $2.50 gal on west coast > > > > > >> See this is the problem Duane, This is a Ranger list.
