Sure the BSA requires boys to believe in God: Tiger Cub Promise: "I promise to love God, my family, and my country and to learn about the world." Cub Scout Promise: "I (name) promise to do my best, to do my duty to God and my country, to help other people, and to obey the Law of the Pack." Boy Scout Oath: On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight. "Leadership is restricted to qualified adults who subscribe to the Declaration of Religious Principle, the Scout Oath, and the Scout Law..." -- from BSA "methods and practices" advisory for parents. "The ACLU, Willis added, (Kent Willis- ACLU) isn't opposed to the Boy Scouts or their right to exist. "The ACLU's concern here is with the government funding of the Boy Scouts so long as there is a religious test to be a member of the Boy Scouts." But Carpenter believes there's much more at stake. "The youth of today really need the Scouts, [and] they need the support of government," he said. "And to have somebody telling them that what you believe in is bad because other people don't believe in it, it just doesn't sit well with a lot of my guys." Since when did the Scouts have a religious test? And let me tell you Chesterfield is an upscale community, very diverse in it's population, there are not just Christian folk there, there are all kinds.
