Allen,

This may work but I am trying to go from an XP laptop to a 2000 workstation in the office. I believe this is a problem?

The communication is encrypted (not sure what algorithm) so your login info and data arent being sent plain text over the net which is nice.

My friend who helped me set this up said there are options you can do like if you have a static IP, you could make it so it would refuse login requests from everyone except your IP, or a list of IP's you give it or domains so you can secure it that way if you want.

I think as well when someone logs in, you can specify which "user profile" to give them so you can give varying levels of access to different people.

Allen,

How good are the security features doing it this way?

Hey Steve,

we used pcanywhere as well until we found out about "remote desktop connection" which comes as part of windows itself (so its free!).

Its very very fast compared to anything else I've seen and when using it, it feels like you are really there using the computer.

Im on a cable modem to a server in a data center and most of the time it feels like im working on a local windows machine except for a little floating bar at the top to minimize the session.

this is where you download the client program:

I dont quite remember exactly how to set it up but i can get some info for you if you need it, a friend of mine helped me set it up.

Also, you can change the options of this program so it has more or less detail to use or conserve whatever bandwidth you have available.

This is by far the best option IMO

Ok, here goes.

We are currently using reachout on Windows 95 machines and remotely connecting to them and running 6.5++ with acceptable performance but, as we switch to 2000 and XP we can not use this program. In addition to this it is no longer on the market. Switched to PC anywhere and this runs slower on a dial up but can work.

Here is the real problem. We are trying to reduce costs and use the bandwidth of our T1's. Currently am trying to connect at the network level over a 100 mb cards (using TCP/IP connections) and everything works fine until we open an Rbase session and then every thing freezes after the applications initial start up. Screen refresh just crawls.

Please note we are using the most current Rbase for DOS and the most current PCanywhere version.

Any ideas?
