Dan, We came back to R:Base with 7.5 to do our own databases. Moved to TurboV8 when we realized the amount of data we would eventually collect would get pretty big and 8 had more capabilities. A huge plus was the long names for columns. Just letting people read real words for a column name and not a cryptic summary, like our previous database used, really helped our behind the scene people learn their way around. For a few extra bucks, the entire package seemed well worth it.
Conversions have been easy. Just follow the directions. 8 has been great for us. The system is very stable, works well, and speed has been very fast on our LAN which includes some dog machines. The only down side we have seen (and it is a minor one) is when we are editing a form with many items (particularly when moving those items around on a 512 machine), we can run out of memory resources. That entire issue goes away by simply saving regularly. I'd recommend upgrading. No regrets on our part. What we didn't know was that the file was 13.5 million records. Using the "load table from filename as formatted" command, the load took approximatey five minutes and the rx2 file grew to about 4 gigabytes.
