Dennis,
We use Windows 2003 Server and Citrix XP with HP Jet-directs to multiple
printers (Mostly HP Lasers and Zebra Label printers) Our remote offices
print hundreds of reports and matching labels each day. Speed and
reliability is execellant.
I couldn't get the reliability I needed with Netgear print servers. We had
skipped reports, duplicate lables,... I took them off my network.
The HP Jet Diriect print servers and the right print drivers (and setup on
the Zebras) solved all our problems. We standardized on HP 1320 printers at
each office. The Brother multi-funtion printers some branches owned were
nothing but trouble.
The only remaining problem is about once a month a branch office will stop
printing ( a print job is hung up)and we need to clear all users from
Citrix, and restart the print spool process on the Citrix server in order
for their print jobs to start up again. I believe it is users not loging
out correctly from Citrix that causes this problem, because there is always
a session with a long period of inactivity when this happens.

In our plants we have a dedicated print server (W2k Server) and every
printer is on a Jet Direct. I think we've found some issues with the
Netgear print server devices, though they are dandy for size and
convenience.
And I can echo the concerns over driver matters in this setup.
In almost all cases we print to screen and let the user decide to send it
to a printer or not. When I want to store documents permanently, they go
directly to PDF on the server disk and then get LAUNCHed.
Moving a user from RB6.5 to 7.1 runtime on terminal services.
One of the issues has been slow printing. My concern in 7.1 is that the
default is to display the report and then print it and wondering what
others have found in terms of printing speed.
I thought I might have them save the report on the server as a pdf file
and then email to their local PC to print. Any tips appreciated.
