kinda amazing it doesn't work with all Shimano parts and specifically designated as 9 speed. As Jim pointed out something is not set up right if it doesn't work. I would try different shifters as my next choice of fixing the issue. I thought there was something unique about Dura Ace shifters compatibility too.
