Don’t run Windows and you wont have a problem. My machines are always on, 
24x7x365, monitor wake-up time ~1 sec. Reboot about once a month or two for 
updates.
 
As for pencil vs. mouse, you cannot compete with the speed of drawing in cad, 
or copy/paste, or of making modifications or fixing mistakes. CTRL+Z is faster 
than an eraser. Not to mention the fact that if you want  drawings at hand 
during workshop build you can actually print them out, complete with 
measurements.
 
Anyone who thinks they can draw finalized MILLIMETER accurate tank plans on 
paper faster than can be done in CAD is kidding themselves.

Once a week.  It gets a reboot from total power off.  Just one way to try to 
keep windows from clogging up and clean up any lingering updates that requires 
additional restarts.
