Well, I have been a member of the list since sometime in late 2005. Geez,
never
really noticed it had been that long. In that time, I haven't ever seen a
conversation
deteriorate to the point this one has. Most of us are adults (not all -
some are under
the age of 18 and I don't mean that intellectually). Of all the forums and
Email lists I
have been a member of, this one has always been the most civil and free of
crap. For
those of us that have been on the list for a long time, these types of
conversations are
like bad pennies. They just keep showing up. People have big dreams of
"innovation"
and revolutionizing the hobby, but in the end most of those folks rarely
build a vehicle
that can compete with the current vehicles with all of their "antiquated"
systems. There
are exceptions to that rule. Doug has actually brought his computerized
monstrosity to
fruition (Doug and I have exchanged parts over the last couple of years so
hopefully he
won't take offense to me calling his backpack a monstrosity). I meant it in
the nicest way. :)
Joe Sommer has built devices for folks (like me) and taken his time and
money to bulk
import motors from China when they weren't readily available (for people
like me - thanks Joe).
I'm definitely not perfect though. I once made on off color comment about
French tanks...boy
was I lambasted about that, but I got over it and just refrained from doing
it again. I also have
3 tanks in the works and none of them are completely operational. All
three of them do run
via remote control (or soon will in the case of the KV-2). Seeing as I live
in MN and no one
else around me has a vehicle near the same level of completion, I've had no
reason to
dedicate all of my time to getting just one fully functional for battle.
Steve, Joe, Frank, John,
and Will have seen many tankers come and go with big ideas. They on the
other hand have all
contributed to the hobby in countless other ways and just because I didn't
mention their achievements
individually doesn't mean that they weren't important (like the
www.cheapcontrolsystems.com
system or all the motor testing Joe has done at his own expense). I think
everyone just got off
on the wrong foot. At this point, it's going to go one of two ways. Either
the parties involved will
apologize for the misunderstandings or they won't. I will say that I don't
believe the public list is
the proper place to "have it out". JMHO. How about 'dem Bears?
