The Wiimote uses Bluetooth to communicate with the console. The light bar is just there to help the Wiimote sync with where the TV actually is. You can theoretically use it without a light bar, but I haven't tested it myself. If you were going to stick a mini-/nano-/pico- ITX into your tank for whatever, you might as well attach a Bluetooth dongle to it and use a Wiimote. Also you'd be better off running Damn Small Linux rather than Puppy Linux =)
