"We can't build and sell a car in Japan but the reverse is true"

Steve, if you think that American Cars don't sell in Japan because of 
restrictive trade practices then you're mad. They don't sell for the same 
reasons that they don't sell in the UK.

(1) They aren't the kind of cars that sell well in Japan (or the UK for 
that matter)
(2) The steering wheel's on the wrong side and, barring Jeeps and a few 
Chryslers I can't think of any imported US cars with LHD versions.
(3) They are perceived, rightly or wrongly, as crude, softly sprung, 
under-damped with all the cornering ability of a brick on a roller skate.
