Hmmmm ... I think the facts say otherwise, Peter. See:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:DeLarge/Top_10_best_selling_cars_in_Britain

for the top 10 best selling cars in Britain. Two "Ford" models topped the list for 2011 (the most recent year listed) and if I recall properly, Ford is a US car company. What's more interesting is that Ford has been number 1 in Britain *EVERY YEAR SINCE 1974*, reigning champ for over 30 years!!!!!

Steve, if you think that American Cars don't sell in Japan because of
restrictive trade practices then you're mad. They don't sell for the
same reasons that they don't sell in the UK.

(1) They aren't the kind of cars that sell well in Japan (or the UK for
that matter)
(2) The steering wheel's on the wrong side and, barring Jeeps and a few
Chryslers I can't think of any imported US cars with LHD versions.
(3) They are perceived, rightly or wrongly, as crude, softly sprung,
under-damped with all the cornering ability of a brick on a roller skate.
