That would even be more true for the PostgreSQL plugin as that database is
totally free for all uses, close to enterprise capable, and is more fully
featured than RS's DB or MySQL even if not as populare as MySQL (because i
suspect it was not on Windows for a long time).
On the Mac, the SourceForge CVS of the Mac 8.1.4 release of pg has been
having issues. The maintainer has suggested he is going to migrate to an
in-house server. The issues with pg are mainly support related for
clients. Without the base of consultants and users that we see for
MySQL, it is a tough sell. People do not understand the MySQL license.
One "loophole" I have cleared with MySQL is including support for
multiple databases and letting users select the database server. (I kept
the e-mail on this, for my own legal tail feathers.)
I'd like to see more support for pg. Navicat's support for pg is now
improving and with Navicat you have an excelling pg tool on several
platforms, including the Mac. (I beta tested Navicat pg on the Mac.)
Real Software has every reason and surely every intention of supporting
as many database platforms as possible. That's one reason people can use
RB in IT settings, if they want.
