I think there is a misunderstanding here... With REAL SQL Server you buy a non-expiring licenses that includes one year of updates. At the end of that year you can renew your update plan or keep using any version that was released during that past year and never pay more to REAL Software. Ever. With MySQL you must pay a minimum of $595/server for every year that you use MySQL. So, use it for three years and you pay at least 3 x $595. Stop paying and you are legally obligated to stop using MySQL.
