Definitely not suitable as a word processor.

My opinion is that it is very inadequate, especially on the Mac,
but that it has nothing to do with insufficient cross-platform. It
is just an old, out-dated, control that should have been updated a
long time ago.

unwilling to complain about it?
Some have just given up complaining about things or filing bug
reports even
Some still do
I have no idea who from REAL reads these lists. I know that has
dropped off.
Feature requests with hundreds or thousands of "me too's" might work
