No, this has nothing to do with pushing the EditField control beyond its
design; at least that isn't my argument. My problem with the EditField
is that it should have had inline spell checking on Mac OS X a long time
ago, it should have supported some of the niceties such as the
Option-delete to delete a whole word and all of the other little "basic"
stuff that other Carbon and Cocoa apps have. It has been seriously
lacking in the most of basic things that makes the RB-built app reek of
un-professionalism. Why is this? Because it is hard for REAL? I don't
buy it.
The reason it hasn't happened is two reasons:
1) It hasn't been their focus.
and 2) There is no REAL competition to RB that forces them to go beyond
the minimums.
...and it is frustrating, and so far I've only talked about EditFields!
Don't get me started on ContainerControls, Windows, Toolbars, MenuItems,
DragItems, SOAP, XML, HTMLViewer, Printing, etc.
Am I the only one who is frustrated about these basic things?

But isn't that mostly because people are pushing the EditField beyond its
