These products all went down for different reasons:
HyperCard - we know who killed this ;-)
SuperCard - Still alive but barely (fall from grace was depending
on Mac
only and total incompetence in porting to Windows)
Metrowerks - Even if they wanted to, very little money and Apple
coming with
a free development tool (ie the platform they support is their worst
competitor).
There is a common thread here :-)
Yes, you are right, but I think you know what I mean. I invested in
all those tools and I remember all the promises made for HyperCard
(would be based on Quicktime) SuperCard (e.g. the hyped web/browser
plugin) and then they suddenly disappeared. I just hope that promises
like Swordfish and Cocoa support won't go this route. However, only
code written with Codewarrior (i.e. C++/C) I can still use and alter.
This is not possible with Hypercard and to a lesser extend SuperCard.
It is not that I don't want to pay for libraries or a propiertary
language, it is just that I would feel a little bit more secure if I
would know I can still use my API knowledge and code after the IDE
company got broke, sold or otherwise disappeared (i.e. I can adapt my
code to new OS features).
Regards,
Jurriaan
