That's much better, that's a professional rate.

Your rates work out at about £177ph here, where AU $1 = £0.40.

I'm currently on a pretty low paid Informix 4GL contract compared to my
normal rate (it's convenient to be so close to home considering my wife's
about to drop a sprogg etc), but it's still a fair whack more.

I don't think I can talk about my rate in real money, but if I was
charging in AU $ I'd probably charge between AU $600 and AU $850 per day,
before tax. I'll leave it to you to convert to your preferred unit and
guess whereabouts in that range I might be!

I guess it's because Informix 4GL is such a niche, and very much a legacy
language that used to be used in mission critical database apps in medium
to large sized enterprises. It might be because I've been doing it for
over 10 years, and so am paid for my experience too. I hear tell that
there are Informix developers that charge less, but most that I work with
get paid roughly the same, depending on experience etc.

REALbasic hasn't been on the go as long as Informix 4GL, and probably
hasn't got the kind of penetration into the business sector, which makes a
huge difference. I've only got 2.5 years of solid experience with it, so I
guess I'd have to modify my rates a little.

If I was doing REALbasic contract work, and working from home, I guess I
would be happy with what you're charging Tom, maybe rounded up a little to
account for the higher cost of living here in the UK! ;-)

Thanks for divulging your rate Tom, it's great to know what a professional
rate is for REALbasic, and therefore what I might be able to charge, or
expect to pay if out sourcing any dev.

Thanks,
