I agree. That's why I mentioned Damon's ability to complete his four-year deal (although I doubt it had more to do with Melky Cabrera. Damon has lost some steps.)
But I think the Sox genreally get these things right (Lowell, Martinez, Nixon, Mueller) then not. I'm not sure why they're not willing to pay for Bay. They have concerns about his defense, but they've lived with Manny for a good long time so I think they're being a little picky. I don't know. I agree they need a big bat, but maybe they're going to try to plug that somewhere else in the lineup.
