The ump didn't give Toronto the corners either.

Look at the picture again. It's the old "strike zone turned on its
side" thing we used to deal with.

And why do they have a square as the strike zone. Clearly, it should be
a vertically oriented rectangle unless someone is 5'2" or shorter.

Even though it was on it's side, the ump clearly expanded the strike
zone horizontally for Toronto.

Don't forget that Wakefield was pitching. Nothing in or out mid-height.
There's clearly a bunch of pitches low and to the right, but almost none
high and outside or inside. Big gaping holes. Must be on purpose. I
think those are great balls to hit and clearly the pitchers don't want
to go there.

I want to see this graph for every game.

John

I still don't understand how an arbitrary strike zone is supposed to add
to the game. It kills me wheni hear Orel Hersheiser (who did a great
job Sunday) say that Lester needed to "train the ump" or will get a low
ball called a strike because "he has great control"

But why isn't Ortiz's data on the big data map? Try to find his

Steve G is right. The strike zone was an extra 18 inches wide.
The whole "as long as the umpire is consistent" thing is all fine and
good, but batters couldn't even reach what was being called a strike.

Okay, but technology wasn't needed for that one. That
was a "screw you" call.

Don't get me started on my "Dump the Umps" tirade again.
MLB needs to step up and solve this problem. The technology we have
today just keeps making them look bad.

I just saw the ball that was called a strike on
Papi in the 9th. That had to be the worst strike call I have ever seen.

Man, there was some really, really terrible
strike calls out there today. Balls that were 18 inches off the plate.
Exhibit A in the case for using computers to call balls and strikes.
