FA signings are a crap-shoot at the best of times. Theo is on the hook for all
of these except Valentine and Bailey (which, in all fairness,
can't be judged an early failure yet). And at the time, I think they issue with
the others was simply the size of the contracts, not bringing
the player to Boston per se.... But I do think that Lucchino is taking
advantage of the power vacuum and is much more involved - see:
Valentine, Bobby. But I also think it is true the between NASCAR and Liverpool,
John Henry is certainly distracted. And his wife is distracting
as well, I am sure..... The FO is definitely in a bit of a mess right now for
sure.

Subject: What happened to Red Sox decision making?

The Debacle of Bobby Valentine is just the latest in a series of bad
Red Sox decisions that have led us to the cellar: Dice-K, Lackey,
Crawford, Bailey, and Valentine all represent serious errors.

I wonder what happened.  Did Evil Larry gain too much power? Was Theo
just a flash in the pan? Did John Henry get distracted by his new
wife?

I'm going with the new wife theory.

I think Henry was the brains of this operation from the start.
