That's a really good point. I think the Sox are letting the tail wag the dog.
The NFL specifically told Robert Kraft not to hire Bill Belichick becaues Belichick was lousy in front of the media. They even sent him videos of Belichick press conferences saying "Do you want this guy representing your team?" But Kraft knows what' s important. You win and then it doesn't matter what you say to the press. "After you win 20 in the show, you can let the fungus grow all over your shower shoes and the press will say you're colorful." Same with Belichick. There is no amount of media savvy (if that's what Valentine has) that will save him from a losing season. Dissing his playiers in public is not going to help either.
